How can districts foster a culture of continuous learning for teachers? The San Diego County Office of Education will share a process for developing growth-based professional learning systems that focus on enhancing teacher capacity by building a bridge between Induction, teacher growth and evaluation. Presenters will share models of how districts across San Diego are creating teacher evaluation systems that embrace the idea of professional learning as a central component to educator effectiveness. Participants will learn structures for developing a common language of effective teaching and learning, aligning professional development to teacher needs, providing opportunities for meaningful feedback, and building capacity of administrators to foster a culture of continuous improvement.

During the session participants will examine research-based components of effective professional learning systems, review professional articles on how changing the culture of teacher evaluation can foster continuous growth through a teacher’s career, engage in discussions for utilizing the CSTP to develop district-wide common language of effective teaching, and reflect upon key learnings from pioneer districts.
Participants will walk away with clear processes for guiding the development of a growth-based system of professional learning and evaluation in their district.
