Due to the shortage of teachers in California, there has been an increase in out of state recruitment. California credentialing requirements are more stringent than other states. Therefore, teachers prepared outside of California may have additional renewal requirements on the California issued preliminary credential. There are also an increasing number of teachers who need an extension to complete renewal requirements, including Induction. LACOE’s Induction program serves over 500 teachers yearly and at least 15% are teachers prepared out of state or country, hold a Level I, or need an extension.

As Education Code changes often, it is critical for program leaders and credential analysts to stay current. Come and learn the nuances of credential renewal requirements to help guide teachers through (1) additional requirements listed on the California issued preliminary credential for teachers who earned the preliminary credential outside of California, or hold a Level I Education Specialist credential, and (2) the extension appeal process. The presentation, consisting of slides and discussion, will cover a breakdown of requirements, review pathways, and provide tangible resources that can be used immediately. Exploring case studies will ensure participants leave with a clear understanding of how to advise teachers in their own Induction program.
