Due to the shortage of teachers in California, there has been an increase in out of state recruitment. California credentialing requirements are more stringent than other states. Therefore, teachers prepared outside of California may have additional renewal requirements on the California issued preliminary credential. There are also an increasing number of teachers who need an extension to complete renewal requirements, including Induction. LACOE’s Induction program serves over 500 teachers yearly and at least 15% are teachers prepared out of state or country, hold a Level I, or need an extension.
