Adult Learning Theory: Informing Our Practice
This presentation focuses on the influential work of Malcolm Knowles and is applied directly to supporting mentors, providing them with tools to best meet the needs of their teachers. Using induction-related tasks, the connections are made between what adults need and want in their personal learning experience. Participants work together to engage with eight principles of adult learning and relate them directly to mentor and teacher tasks.

Building Cohesive Teams Through Positive Leadership and Coaching
Are you interested in leading with equity and a growth mindset? Do you need strategies to boost motivation and build teacher and administrator efficacy?
The tenets for building cohesive teams will be explored in this interactive presentation based on Jon Gordon's three pillars of Communication, Coach, and Care. Ideas for listening, re-framing questions, and being an empathetic leader will be discussed as ways to build trust and cohesion. This is an interactive session in which participants will engage in pair share, whole group, journaling, and video clip discussions using presentation slides, facilitated discussions, and hands on activities. You will want to use these strategies with your own teams! Participants will receive a booklet with a collection of team building ideas.

Cultivating Emotional Resilience in Teachers
Do you aspire to build your own resilience, or that of those you coach, lead, or supervise? Do you want to make organizational changes that foster resilience in groups? The Cultivating Emotional Resilience workshop will present strategies to cultivate resilience that can be incorporated into conversations—be those coaching or supervision conversations, as well as suggestions for organizational and structural changes that foster resilience in teams and groups. You’ll learn how to recognize entry points to building resilience in individuals and in organizations, and you’ll practice doing so. The content of this workshop is based on Elena Aguilar’s book, Onward: Cultivating Emotional Resilience in Educators (Jossey-Bass, 2018) and is perfect for those who support beginning teachers or those who design programs of support in both the pre-service and induction settings and who seek to practice these strategies that cultivate resilience and consider systematic implementation.

Social & Emotional Learning Change Agents: Mission Possible
This engaging, collaborative session will take participants through the beginning stages of SEL district-wide implementation using a grass roots model used at Walnut Valley Unified School District. In this workshop, participants will see how a district formed and empowered an SEL K-12 advisory cohort that researched different SEL models, created district surveys, desegregated data, planned curriculum, and delivered engaging and energetic social emotional presentations to various stakeholders across the district. Learn how a district vision and mission statement were developed to ignite hope and to promote positive emotional support for students and the school community. At this dynamic workshop, presenters with K-12 experience, will also model meaningful, hands-on SEL strategies. Participants will engage in making powerful student connections, participate in SEL activities, learn how to make a calming jar, and will practice other meaningful SEL strategies that can be immediately used in their classrooms or sites. Other highlights of the workshop will be the Mood Meter from Yale Center for Emotional Intelligence RULER Program and the development of wellness spaces at various sites. Video-based Observation: Increasing Equity for Both Educators and Learners
Sponsored Presentation. Recent research has underscored the critical value of video observations to effectively assess and improve teaching skills as well as to provide mentorship and coaching support. Video continues to stand out as the most comprehensive and natural means to capture performance in educational settings. Yet the ability to conduct frequent and effective video observations has been perceived as cumbersome and expensive.

This session will present a practical overview of new tools and strategies that facilitate the use of video economically and at scale. The presentation will include a live interactive demonstration highlighting the ease with which new cloud-based technologies can be deployed.

In particular, we will demonstrate how video solutions can support timely, formative feedback in professional learning environments. We will address how the demonstration of competency, informed self-reflection, and thoughtful input from qualified observers (including peers) can be achieved using video, and how video observations can be integrated into existing professional development best practices and standards.

Finally, we will provide guidance on emerging trends and upcoming standards that assume the use of video technology. There will be open time for Q & A and follow up information provided.
